Volunteer activities

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering.

The future of the Skykomish River would not be possible without the generosity, dedication, and talent of volunteers like you. We have many opportunities for volunteers of all skill levels and interests.

Since we launched this summer, we're excited with our initial steps and sharing with you what's going on that's important to us!

Chum Collection

We're excited to share that the Fall-Winter Chum Collection is a go! We are able to permit you and will be coordinating collection efforts.

Our mission, should you choose to accept it, will be collecting 300 male, and 300 female chums (yes, 600 chum collected in total) from October through December.

We have fish bags, we will have pens, and we can coordinate transport trucks with other groups and WDFW directly. Whether you're new to fishing, a seasoned angler, or just want to help — there's a place for you.

We have a critical need of seasoned boat captains who own boats and are willing to take anglers out.

Are you interested in getting involved? I sure hope so!

To volunteer you are required to complete all of the following steps to receive your permit and coordinate trips.

Step 1: Sign up as a volunteer and complete orientation with WDFW. (State Requirement)

Step 2: Complete the Chum Collection volunteer link. (State Requirement)

Step 3: Volunteer with Sky River Restoration (Necessary to issue permits and coordinate efforts)

Step 4: Once completed, we will send you an email requesting additional information to issue you your permits that are to be kept on persons while collecting chum.

We cannot wait to see you out on the river, and together I know we can meet this larger than ever collection target!
